NRC, Let's analyze

Specifications for our acoustic products will include the NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) value. This acronym represents the Noise Reduction Coefficient, indicating the extent to which the acoustic product absorbs sound in the indoor space where it is placed, expressed as a single number.

NRC, Noise Reduction Coefficient

This rating is determined by testing the sound absorption in a laboratory environment. An NRC of 0 indicates complete sound reflection (no absorption effect), while an NRC of 1 signifies that the surface of the product absorbs sound perfectly, with a 100% absorption rate.

Using the NRC value, you can understand the acoustic performance of various acoustic products such as acoustic wall panels/tiles, acoustic ceiling tiles/baffles/clouds, acoustic screens, carpets, etc. A higher NRC value indicates that the product effectively absorbs sound.

NRC value of 0 indicates perfect reflecting material, while an NRC value of 1 signifies perfect absorbing material.

The process of determining the NRC is conducted using standardized tests for sound absorption. This test, conducted according to the reverberation room method (KS F 2805), involves generating sound at four different frequencies, measuring the sound levels within the reverberation room, placing acoustic products, and repeating the process to average the differences in sound levels.

However, it's important to note that while the NRC value provides general information about the product's sound absorption performance, it may not provide a complete understanding of the overall performance. Factors such as the installation location of the product, the shape of the space, the total amount of reflective or absorptive materials in the space, the number of occupants, and the intended use of the space can affect the perceived performance in real-world environments. For this reason, it is recommended to consult with an acoustic expert during the actual application to receive tailored product recommendations that align with the desired acoustic levels.

We are ready to provide a tailored acoustic experience for your space.
